Like almost every other country on earth, Thailand uses the metric system of weights and measures -- except regarding land!  Exactly why this is remains a bit of a mystery.  However, it is not going to change any time soon, so we must contend with it.

On our website, you will see both a currency converter and and area converter at the top of every listing page and also wherever it may come in handy, like in the sidebar of this blog.  Also, the area of land listings are given in both Thai and their metric equivalent.  If you still use the English system, you can use the handy converter link.

Here's a handy little chart:

1 rai  =  1600 square meters  = .394 acres


1 square wah  = 4 square meters  =  4.784 square yards


1 ngan  =  400 square meters  =  478.4 square yards
